Easy ways to go green in the staffroom
1. Recycle smarter
Set up clearly labelled bins for paper, containers, and soft plastics. Consider a shared collection point for batteries or e-waste.
2. Compost kitchen waste
Add a small compost bin for coffee grounds, tea bags, and food scraps. If your school doesn’t have a composting system, see if a staff member can take it home or connect with a local service.
3. Create a mug library
Ditch disposable cups by stocking the staffroom with a mix of reusable mugs. Encourage everyone to bring in a spare.
4. Share the load
Start a “bring and borrow” shelf for reusable shopping bags, containers, or even books and magazines.
5. Switch to reusables
Replace paper towels and wipes with washable cloths and tea towels. Keep a laundry roster or take turns bringing them home.
6. Save energy with simple reminders
Put up friendly signs near switches and appliances: “Turn off when not in use” goes a long way.

Share wins in the staff newsletter, like how many kilos of waste were composted or how many single-use cups were avoided. Small wins build momentum.
